PlayStation sales declining

If you make a comparison between the Christmas season in 2008 and 2007, there was a drop in sales for the PlayStation console. The decrease in units of PlayStation 3 was sold on the console 44 thousand, whereas in the PSP and PlayStation 2 is the decrease of 68 thousand and 360 units respectively. These data derive from the tax report published by the Japanese giant.

In the fiscal third quarter of Sony were sold 4.46 million units of PlayStation 3. Data for PSP and PS2 follows respectively 5.08 million and 2.52 million units sold respectively in the period in fiscal analysis. Revenues totaled 393.8 billion yen (3.3 billion Euros), representing a fall 32.2% over the same period last year when revenues were 581.2 billion yen (3.6 billion Euros).

The corporate operating income, or the expression of the result before the tax, is 400 million yen (3.5 million). The decline in this case is 97%, supported by Sony with the trend of the yen and the decline in sales of hardware and software.

Growing, however, the amount of software for PlayStation 3 sold in the fiscal quarter compared to the results of the same period last year. The PS3 games have sold 40.8 million, an increase of 14.8 million units. In fall, however, sales of software for PSP and PlayStation 2, of 2.8 million and 31.2 million copies, respectively. The copies of games sold in the fourth fiscal PSP for a total 15.5 million and 29.7 million for PS2.

According to the forecasts of analysts, Sony will announce losses for more than a billion dollars for what concerns the entire 2007-2008 fiscal year ending March 31, as reported.
