Intel should make, in 2008, a new platform for desktop configurations specifically targeted at low cost type, with a total cost of the motherboard and processor and other components of the system that should be limited within 100 dollars. A platform of this type could be widely disseminated in all those low-cost solutions that are gradually being studied by manufacturers, aimed at encouraging the spread of information technology in developing nations.

According to information published on the website DigiTimes, the platform will use a 45 nanometer processor marked with the code name of Diamondville, combined with Intel 945GC chipset or alternatively SiS 671. From time using Intel chipset developed by Taiwanese SiS for their solutions Entry level, so that we can exploit the low cost.
The operating system of reference for this kind of platform is Microsoft Windows Vista Basic, in consideration of both the low cost platform that the specific hardware, the cooling will be passive, thus further reducing the overall cost of the components required for the construction of the system.
Currently Intel would be informed that ASUSTeK Shuttle their plans for the platform Shelton, this is the code name by which shows this new project, both companies are engaged in the development of desktop systems of small size, with the first SFF PC and the second with the evolution of desktop product family Eee PC, recently presented in notebook systems.
